SUBMIT TO CONTRA VIENTO
Contra Viento publishes work by and for a wide-ranging audience. We are especially interested in submissions from writers and artists historically underrepresented on rangelands and in projects with specific focus on grazing cultures.
We encourage submissions that examine the boundaries between space and place, between land and landscape, between past and future, between somewhere and nowhere, between human and animal, between human and human. Before submitting, we recommend reviewing our About page.
Please direct all submissions to submit@contravientojournal.org unless specified differently below. We do not accept previously published writing. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify us promptly if your submission is accepted elsewhere.
In addition to your submission, please include the following:
- Your name, email, background, bio or artist statement, and links to previous work.
- A description of your experience with rangelands, generally or in specific relation to your submission.
- Any design suggestions if we were to publish your submission.
JOURNAL
Contra Viento is currently closed to submissions. We welcome literary fiction and nonfiction, poetry, visual art of any medium, and work that blends or subverts these genres. Accepted work will be rewarded with an honorarium.
For fiction and nonfiction, please send work of no more than 5,000 words. For short prose, multiple submissions are acceptable.
For poetry, please send a collection of up to 5 pieces, preferably linked, to claire@contravientojournal.org.
For art, please send no more than 15 pieces to lucy@contravientojournal.org.
OPEN RANGE
Open Range is our home for more frequent postings of art and writing from rangelands and the American West. We are currently open for submissions in all of the above, as well as essays, reviews, profiles, interviews, photo stories, reportage, and other.
